How the Harbor area connects to LA

San Pedro and Wilmington joined the City of Los Angeles in 1909, which gave the city its port. To link them up, the city had already taken in a narrow strip of land running south from South LA. That strip is now Harbor Gateway. It's why a map of the city has a thin "shoestring" reaching down to the harbor.

Because these neighborhoods sit so far from the rest of LA, a lot of people assume they're separate. They aren't. They're part of LA and a regular part of our service area.

Harbor area housing

San Pedro has many older homes, including Craftsman and Spanish-style houses, on streets that climb the hills toward the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Closer to downtown San Pedro and the waterfront, there are more apartment buildings. Wilmington sits right next to the port and the refineries, with single-family homes and apartments mixed in among industrial areas. Harbor City and Harbor Gateway are mostly single-family homes and small apartment buildings.

Jobs that come up most

  • Full house cleanouts in homes a family has owned for a long time. Our estate cleanout service covers every room, closet and drawer.
  • Garage and side yard cleanouts in single-family homes.
  • Rental turnovers for property managers with houses and small buildings in San Pedro, Wilmington and Harbor City.
  • Remodel debris from older homes: drywall, wood, tile and old cabinets.
  • Old appliances and furniture after a move.

Access and logistics

Some San Pedro streets are steep and narrow, and hillside lots can mean steps up or down to the front door. Send a photo of the street and the entry so we can plan parking and the carry.

Big rig traffic to and from the port is heavy on many main roads in Wilmington and San Pedro. The Harbor Freeway (the 110) is the main link to the rest of the city. Since the Harbor area is a long drive from most of LA, we plan the timing of these jobs so the trip works for everyone.
